How to Apply
Before
You Apply
Before making an application
for any postgraduate programme, the University strongly advise you
to consult more detailed sources of information such as the relevant
departmental web pages or the Introduction to Postgraduate Study
and/or departmental brochures which you can order on-line
or download a
Prospectus. Additionally, the Educational Support Office's Handbook
for Students with Special Needs provides information about support
available to applicants with disabilities, medical/mental conditions
or different learning skills such as dyslexia.
If you require any
further information, or have follow-up questions, please contact the
Director of Graduate Study in the relevant department, the appropriate
Programme Director, or the member of staff in whose area of research
you are interested. For more general advice, please contact the Educational
& International Liaison Office. Students from overseas may find
it useful to talk to university representatives visiting a country
for British Council and other higher education exhibitions and fairs;
Royal Holloway's representatives at these events
are always more than happy to help and advise whenever they can.
You are very welcome
to visit the campus in order to see for yourself whether you would
be happy studying here. If you wish to contact a specific member of
staff to discuss your application, please try to make an appointment
well in advance.
The Application Form
Fulltime MBA International
Management application form can be downloaded from here.
If you contact the
University for application forms please state the programme that you
are interested so that the University may send the appropriate application
papers. It is important to follow carefully the instructions provided
with the application form to avoid unnecessary delays. Application
forms should be accompanied with the following items. They cannot
be processed until all this information has been received:
- Two confidential references returned
with the application in sealed envelopes. The University will
supply their own envelopes with the application form; however
referees may supply their own envelopes provided they are signed
across the seal and carry some mark of their institution or organisation.
- Candidates applying to the departments
of Drama and Theatre, English, Media Arts or Music are also asked
to submit two pieces of written work (other departments may also
ask for written work).
- overseas applicants should submit
a transcript of their degree studies to date.
Completed application
forms should be returned to the Admissions Office, Registry.
When to Apply
The College does not
have a formal deadline for applications. However, the University recommend
that applications are sent well in advance of the intended enrolment
date to allow good time for the various arrangements that need to
be made between the receipt of application forms and the commencement
of study. Some of their taught degrees will also be fully subscribed
by the summer months and unable to consider applications by this time.
Normally, students
commence their studies at the start of the academic year in late September,
although a few MPhil/Phd programmes can be started at other times
of the year. The University therefore advise that your application
reaches the University by 31 May, particularly if you wish
to apply for accommodation on campus. However, most Departments do
not have a deadline for applications but welcome them all the year
round.
Applicants who wish
to be considered for Research Council, British Academy, Overseas Research
Student awards or College Studentships and Scholarships are recommended
to submit their postgraduate application form by 31 March at
the latest in order to comply with the deadlines set by these grant-awarding
bodies.
Offers of Admission
Departmental Directors
of Graduate Study will contact you if an interview is required, otherwise
the Department will come to its decision by taking into account the
information contained in the application form, references and other
submissions (if appropriate).
Once a decision has
been made, the Department informs the Registry who issue an offer
letter. It is the letter from the Registry which will contain your
formal offer of admission. Certain conditions of admission may
be set out - for example, the offer of a place may be conditional
on your achieving a certain qualification, attaining a specified level
of English language proficiency, or providing a statement of financial
support. Candidates whose first language is not English, are normally
required to provide proof of their English language proficiency: the
University recommend the British Council IELTS test.
Decisions on your application
will be made as quickly as possible. However, if you are concerned
about your application please contact: Admissions Office, Registry
